The Act Against Recusants (1593)
history.hanover.eduThe recusants were Englishmen who would not take the Anglican eucharist - at this time they were almost entirely Catholic. This Act was the cornerstone of the "Penal Laws" which were to ensure that English Catholics would be a smaller religious minority than virtually any other Protestant nation.
