Bl. Thomas Percy, Earl of Northumberland, the son of a martyr, warred against the Scots. He was held in favor even by Queen Elizabeth until the failure of a scheme by some Catholics to free Mary, Queen of Scots. For refusing to renounce his faith, he was beheaded at York in 1572.
