The comparison to Amanita ocreata should also note that A. velosa can be completely white (whether this is taxonomically significant or not is unknown) as is the poisonous A. ocreata. However, the latter has amyloid spores and normally lacks striations on the margin of the pileus--two characters among many that segregate it from A. velosa.
