Guardian: Democrat starts bid for White House

Duncan Campbell. A Vietnam veteran and a former lawyer, John Kerry has emerged as one of the favourites in a crowded field. He was elected to the Senate in 1984 and is a senior member of the Senate foreign relations committee and was involved in the investigation into the Iran-contra affair which rocked the Reagan presidency.
